Week 12: Prototyping Game of Life Pixel Pad

This week I put my hand to rest and wanted to venture into different technology-enabled interactions. I asked myself what if trees could draw with us? and created a few p5.js sketches.

① Game of Life Pixel Pad with Webcam Sensor

Reflecting on Week 10's drawing pad, I wasn’t satisfied with just using a mouse and my hands to draw. I was curious to try drawing with body gestures. So, then I tried combining the drawing pad with Posenet - a Google learning framework that detects key body points in human figures. It started with connecting the pixels to eyes.

I was then curious to see if it could track a fake hand: It did not work..

Then I tried it with nose - which I thought was funny as I notice people dancing infront of a screen.

② User-Testing 🔎

After having so much fun on my own, I wanted to see how users might interact with this prototype which I found to be really successful just by observing how they move infront of a screen and projecting their imagination on what they have created on screen.

The following images document some of the conversations and user-testings of the prototype. To watch the videos, click here.

Week 12: Feedback & Reflection

This week has been a lot of exploring, making and pushing craft in a fun way. I enjoy making these protoypes/experimentations and I need to find a way to package in a 'easy-to-follow' documentation.
