Madeline Schwartzman Hand project in dark

Week 2 : Nature is Intimate 👩‍❤️‍👩

Having learned so much from the last week reading literature reviews, watching videos and analysing projects, I put together presentation slides to share with the atelier. While the research was not exactly linear, the goal of this sharing was to present a journey of discovery through visual references.

Part ① : Unnatural/Natural 👽

To introduce the blurred lines between the natural and unnatural, as suggested by the concept of queer ecology, I looked for pop-culutral references to explain this concept to the atelier.

The concept of queer ecology is future-oriented. It's fictional and questions the reality through intimate connection with nature. Immediately I thought of go-to reference 'Bob's Burgers'. The episode of Bob and the scared cow where he questioned his faith for Linda. Next, I had to pull out the futuristic and vulgar 'Rick and Morty'. The critically acclaimed love story of a merman and a woman and finally, the post-apocalytpic world of hybrids.

  • Sweet Tooth Netflix Series

Part ② : Extended Senses 🦾

The idea of extended senses is explained through a series of project that physically extends the living entities. Through three different categories, I have (1)Augmenting Body, (2)Augmenting Device and (3)Augmenting Nature.

Part ③ : Profiling Skillset 🙇🏻‍♂️

Nature has always been something prelevant in my creativity. During the atelier sharing, I showed some of my illustrations.

Week 2 : Feedback & Reflection 🫦

The findings piqued the class's interest, and a classmate gave me suggestions on what I could read and some project examples. It was also interesting to see how people reacted with keywords such as: Alien, Hybrid Species, Everyday, Humour, Experiment with Senses
